TOWN 'N COUNTRY - The community is going through changes.
Tuesday, during the Town 'N Country Community Plan Working Committee's quarterly meeting, several dozen interested parties discussed the upcoming changes and how to interest others in participating.
Resident Rob Gamester led the meeting at the Town 'N Country Recreation Center, 6039 Hanley Road.
Israel Grajales, project manager for the Town 'N Country Commons, discussed minor changes to the development. Because contractors budgeted $1.5 million more than the projected price, several tweaks to the mechanical and electrical system were made, he said.
An architectural component in the building is also changed: the stairwell will be made of stucco instead of bricks. The rest of the Commons - which will consist of the Town 'N Country Regional Library, a Head Start facility and a senior center - will remain the same.
Construction began in May. Grajales said the slab is done and the concrete block walls are up. He estimates construction to the second floor may begin within three weeks.
The Commons is scheduled to open in December 2008. The park next to the building will be ready by summer 2009.
Mainsail Hotel representatives also attended the meeting to briefly discuss their plans to build a 320-unit apartment complex southwest of George Road and Hillsborough Avenue.
The 11-acre lot formerly housed a trailer park. Representatives said they expect construction of the apartment complex to begin by late spring 2008.
The next Town 'N Country Community Plan meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 8 at the Town 'N Country Recreation Center.
