KEYSTONE - The Friends of the Austin Davis Library will welcome visitors to their sixth annual fall festival Oct. 20, and visitors are encouraged to join in the Keystone Family Fun Day event nearby.
The fall festival, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the library, will include face painting, a football toss and pumpkin face decorating. There will be free food and beverages.
The festival will run in concordance with the Keystone Family Fun Day, which will feature live music, food and kid-friendly activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Keystone Park, 17928 Gunn Highway.
The Austin Davis Library is at 17808 Wayne Road. A walkway connects it to Keystone Park.
The library fall festival organizers sponsor this event to familiarize residents with the library, according to Madella A. Robertson of the friends. 'Many have lived in this community for years and still do not know that we have a library, and we want them to know what it has to offer,' she said.
Last year the Citrus Park-Keystone-Odessa Historical Society approached the Friends of the Austin Davis Library to see whether they would be interested in moving their annual festival to the park next door, where there was more space for parking and booths. They declined.
'We chose to continue to promote the library itself,' Robertson said. 'We agreed that the friends would continue to set up at the library, and the historical society and other organizations would set up at Keystone Park.'
Visitors are encouraged to visit both festivals because they are so close to each other. 'There's a sidewalk right there. Perhaps we can put some better signs letting people know,' Robertson said.
The Friends of the Austin Davis Library have roots as far back as 1977, with the opening of the Citrus Park-Keystone storefront library at Fox's Corner on Gunn Highway. The 10,000-square-foot Austin Davis Library opened in 1993.
The Friends run a bookstore inside the library. Money raised helps pay for the library's children's programs.
