WESTCHASE - With a deadline fast approaching, residents have been pushing for approval of possible traffic-calming measures along Countryway Boulevard.
Residents living in the three areas affected by the proposal have the opportunity to vote. The deadline to return the ballots is 5 p.m. Nov. 10.
Some of the areas have received enough votes to approve the measures, county records show.
Area two achieved 65.2 percent approval to install a raised intersection at Countryway and Peabody Lane. Area three achieved 67.6 percent approval to install a raised intersection at Countryway and Ashville Drive.
However, area one has yet to achieve the necessary 60 percent approval, records show. Approval reached 50.4 percent as of Oct. 24 to install a raised intersection at Glencliff Circle and Countryway and a raised crosswalk at the trail south of Glencliff.
Area one includes homes along Woodbay Drive and residents on Glencliff, Rockport Place and Seabrook Drive.
Gail Gundersen, who lives within the Woodbay neighborhood, said she and other neighbors have been trying to get the word out to approve the safety measures.
'We are pushing really hard door-to-door,' she said.
Gundersen said volunteers are trying to convince residents that the raised intersections aren't as jarring as speed humps and primarily serve to make pedestrians walking across the street more visible.
