Brandon Crossroads Produces 300 Games And 800 Series

Published: September 5, 2007

Justin Barile began each of his three league games at Brandon Crossroads Bowl the same way: a strike, followed by a spare, which really didn't serve as a prelude to his first 800 series.

Shooting 800 series is nothing new to Joe Brannon - he has bowled five - but it has been a little more than a year since he last twirled in 12 'perfect' tosses. That interlude ended last week, also at BCB.

Robert Davis achieved his first 300 - again at BCB - the hard way, waiting until the final game when the oil pattern is rapidly changing, approach movement a necessity and ball speed greatly altered.

And Mark Brawner had to wait 20 years for his first perfect game.

Barile, Brannon and Brawner fired their leading scores in the BCB Men's League, while Davis rolled his in the Family Feud League. And in the BCB Wednesday Wackos League, Steve Hone fell one pin short of perfection.

Barile's 818 series was posted on games of 269, 280 and 269, in which 'both 269 games were twins,' Barile said. 'I started with a strike, left a 10-pin, spared, then struck all the way through the first ball in the 10th when another 10 pin arose.'
Barile started his second game with strike-spare, but then was perfect throughout for the 280.

Barile, 23, has been bowling since age 5. His highest series prior to the 818 was 771.

Brannon, 36, pulled his opening shot, the ball hitting the 1-2 pocket and exploding the pins. The next 11 deliveries, however, were right in the 1-3 pocket, concluding his sixth lifetime 300. He finished with a 772 series.

Davis, 21, opened with games of 192 and 194.

'I was throwing a good ball in the first two games,' Davis said, 'but they just wouldn't fall. In the third game, things began happening.'

The only doubtful moment came when his second delivery in the 10th frame went Brooklyn.

It was his first 300 in 13 years, mostly at BCB.
Brawner credited relaxation for finally climbing that 300 hill.

'That was the most relaxed I have ever been,' said Brawner, 41, whose previous high game was 296, also at BCB. The perfect game was sandwiched around games of 191 and 181.

AMF UNIVERSITY LANES: Andrew Adler and Billy Kelly led the men, while Mona Bossick and Casie Soderstrom paced the women last week.

Adler bowled 249-711, while Kelly had 277-653. Other men's scores were Brian More 255-688, John Dickerman 246-668, Wayne Mixdorff 199-591, Mike McLaughlin 232, Steven Kirk 257-585, Simon Lord 245-564, Doug Waters 223-560 and Derek Linderman 222-550.

Bossick went 214-630, while Soderstrom rolled 220-600. Other good scores were Sharon Bossick 207-538, Bethany Dykema 190-509, Cindy Clark 202-498, Jean Frye 490, Natalie Groves 489 and Stephanie Talley 178-479.
