TOWN 'N COUNTRY -- The Volunteer Citizen Patrol Program has had much success in Apollo Beach and Westchase, and now the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office wants to bring the program to the Bay Crest and Twelve Oaks neighborhoods.
Tuesday evening a handful of interested locals attended a meeting led by Cpl. Albert Selke and Deputy Faith Nadel, the volunteer program coordinator for the sheriff's office. The duo explained the ins and outs of the program and answered questions.
Bay Crest and Twelve Oaks were chosen for the program's expansion because the neighborhoods already have a patrolling system. With the citizen patrol, residents will now have a direct link to the sheriff's office, Nadel said.
Duties include: patrolling neighborhoods, assisting with school crossings, documenting graffiti and assisting with road obstructions.
The sheriff's office is looking for volunteers. For information or to participate in the program, contact Nadel at (813) 247-0944.
