KEYSTONE - County officials will hold a public meeting Thursday to discuss a proposed improvement to the intersection of Boy Scout Road and Race Track Road.

The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Keystone Recreation Center, 17928 Gunn Highway.

The $900,000 project calls for a roundabout to replace the existing three-way intersection.

'This is a prime example of an old country intersection that is being surrounded by development,' said Steve Valdez, spokesman for the county.
Project director Sam Halibi, along with the project's design-consulting firm, will be on hand to give details and answer questions. Artist's renderings of the proposed roundabout will be on hand for viewing.

Valdez said increasing complaints from drivers brought the situation to a head.

'The traffic counts have gone up and up for that intersection over the past few years,' he said. 'You have to look over your shoulder to make a turn onto Race Track, and that's not good.'

The project, fully funded, has been in the planning stages for about 18 months.

Construction is expected to begin in the middle of 2009 and finish by early 2010.
