TOWN 'N COUNTRY - The Timberlane Civic Association wants its residents to connect and is using a neighborhood flea market to make it happen.

The first Timberlane/Woodlake Civic Association Flea Market is taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 20 at Timberlane Park, 10210 Westgate Drive.

Association President Raymond Franqui hopes thousands attend but will settle for as many as possible.

'I think activities like these are steps for our final goal, which is to have 60 to 70 percent of residents sign up as active members, or at least contributing members, in the civic association,' Franqui said. 'If you take 60 to 70 percent of 1,500 homes, we could have a substantial budget that could do incredible things for our community.'

'That's my vision, to have a budget where you can allocate a certain amount monthly for the upkeep of the common areas and do community projects,' he said.

The annual dues for the community are $20, although some people contribute more, he said.

Franqui has passed out 1,000 fliers throughout the neighborhood to spread word of the flea market. It is $5 to rent a space and $5 more to rent a table. Residents have until Oct. 13 to reserve a place.
Attendees can expect tables of unused items by Timberlane and Woodlake residents. Franqui also said they can expect socializing because the event will provide neighbors the opportunity to meet people and make friends.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue, drinks, music and possibly a car wash will also be part of the day. Franqui said volunteers are needed for the car wash.

Members of the civic association will be on hand to meet with interested residents and try to inspire them to actively join the group and support the community.

'We need support so that we can successfully grow and get some things done,' he said.

Those interested in participating should call Franqui at (813) 598-8398.
