Readers offered words of encouragement and community pride in response to a story about the Citrus Park Little League team heading to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
They also chided the Tribune for what some thought was less comprehensive coverage of the Citrus Park Little League's girl's softball team at the Big League World Series in Kalamazoo, Mich., and the Palma Ceia Junior League girls softball team in the Junior League World Series in Kirkland, Wash.
Here is a sampling of their comments from Tampa Bay Online:
Great job, CP boys. I am extremely proud of all of you guys. Great kids, awesome coaches and excellent parents. Citrus Park is a class organization. They will win it all! Good luck and God bless. Coach Pete.

My boys played at CP. It's a great park with great parents and kids. I'm so glad they had baseball and especially Citrus Park in their lives. Go Citrus Park!

I'm happy the boys made it to the World Series but, the girls from Citrus Park also made it to the World Series of Softball in Kalamazoo, MI. It really is a shame the media is all over the boys with news coverage about the fundraising, a send off, and of course going to the World Series. I bet many people didn't know that the girls went to the boys game to cheer them on and ESPN couldn't even mention on the TV that the girls were also going to the World Series. The girls didn't get any credit for working as hard as the boys. Talk about sexist!

First, congrats to the boys from Citrus Park. We are all cheering for you. However ... the Palma Ceia girls Junior Softball team is playing in the Junior Little League World Series and the Citrus Park Big League girls are playing in the Big League World Series in Kalamazoo, Mich. Now, as I can appreciate the support for the boys, do the girls not deserve the same support, television time, donations and so forth? Their families have to pay outta pocket so they can attend these tournaments. ... For anyone interested in following these teams progress you can go to: http://www.littleleague.org/series/2008divisions/j... This site allows you to access all 8 of the LLWS in progress.
