TAMPA - Two teenagers took handguns to their high schools today in separate incidents, authorities said.

Alonso High School was placed on lockdown about 12:30 p.m. after Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies were told a student was carrying a firearm.

Deputies found an unloaded 9 mm semiautomatic pistol and a loaded clip in the backpack of ninth-grader David Robert Costillow, the sheriff's office said.

Costillow, 15, faces charges of possession of a firearm on school property and was to be taken to the county's Juvenile Assessment Center.

Earlier today, another 15-year-old boy took a .45-caliber handgun to Hillsborough High School in an attempt to sell it, Tampa police said.

Kevin Brantley was arrested at the school after his mother called Hillsborough High to report her son might have a gun, police said. The school was placed on lockdown for 90 minutes.

"Officers located Brantley and found a 45-caliber handgun clip in his pants pocket," police said. "The suspect told officers the gun was under a keyboard in the classroom."

Brantley had not found a buyer for the weapon, which he stole from his girlfriend's house, police said.

He faces charges of theft of a firearm, possession of a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm on school grounds. Brantley also was to be taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
