KEYSTONE - Twenty-seven people hit the streets Saturday, clearing more than 1,000 pounds of trash from Gunn Highway.
The road cleanup, sponsored by the Keystone Civic Association, is part of a quarterly Adopt-A-Road program.
"We had about eight first-timers out here, which is what we need," said Greg Riski, association board member and event organizer.
Volunteers gathered at the Keystone Community Center, 17928 Gunn Highway, during morning hours. They cleared three miles of Gunn from Van Dyke Road to Tarpon Springs Road.
Among the tires, scrap lumber and hub caps volunteers found credit cards, money and an aluminum bat.
Some association members brought their children, who cleaned the less busy Wayne Road.
Community Resource Deputy Kristy Udagawa came out to slow down traffic along Gunn Highway.
"We didn't' ask her to do that, and it was such a help to us," Riski said.
The Keystone Civic Association hosts four road cleanups a year. Two, the International Coastal Cleanup in fall and the Great American Cleanup in spring, are associated with the Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful program.
The next road cleanup takes place April 19. To register, call Riski at (813) 920-5561 or visit the Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful's Web site at www.khcbonline.org.
