Web Site Offers Details On Roadway Extension

CITRUS PARK - The Citrus Park Drive Extension project has brought on numerous questions from potentially affected neighbors and drivers looking forward to the expansion of the east-west corridor.

To answer those questions, PB Americas, the engineering company working on the project, has designed a Web site for the masses: www .citrusparkdriveextension .com.

"Every effort was made to provide as much information as possible to the public," said county project manager Ben Kniesly. "It walks through the process the county goes through before building a roadway this size."

The proposed extension would be a four-lane road with 12-foot lanes, 4-foot bicycle lanes and 5-foot sidewalks in both directions running 2.8 miles from Countryway Boulevard to Sheldon Road. Part of the road would run along the southernmost edge of the Fawn Ridge community, which is why residents from that neighborhood appealed to the county to find an alternative alignment.

The county is in the design phase and is waiting for a response from the Department of Environmental Protection and the Southwest Florida Water Management District to re-examine the alignment and determine whether it can be moved south.

The site features pages for information, a schedule of work, progress, public involvement, comments, related links and contact numbers. It also has maps and a virtual tour that is in the works.

"That'll give you a 3-D drive through the project," said consultant project manager Greg Cutrone, with PB. "It gives you a look of what the road may look like with the information we currently have. Nothing is better than pictures; it's hard to explain a concept."

The Web site will keep interested parties updated.

"This is just a more efficient way to spread the information," Kniesly said.
