CITRUS PARK Dogs were just getting accustomed to having a new place to stretch their legs.

A few months after opening, the new dog park on Monterey Boulevard within the Logan Gate Village subdivision will be closed for about a week's worth of repairs.

John Brill, spokesman for the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department, said an exact date for reopening is unknown.

The park's basketball court and playground area remain open for use.

Meanwhile, the two nearest dog parks available for use are the West Park Dog Park at 6402 Occident Road in Town 'N Country and Carolyn Meeker Dog Park at 102 First Ave. SW in Lutz.

The Logan Gate dog park was damaged during a Jan. 10 incident involving a patrol car that smashed gates and about 150 to 200 feet of fence.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reported that Walter John Brois III, 36, of Tampa, was stopped that evening for speeding and doing wheelies on a motorcycle.

After pepper-spraying deputies, Brois also stole a patrol car and dragged a deputy for about 75 feet before driving through three fences, according to the sheriff's office. Brois was arrested a few days later in Pinellas Park. He faces a variety of charges, including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and grand theft of a motor vehicle, jail records show.

Brill said, estimates to repair the damages to the fence are about $2,800 to $3,200.
