TOWN 'N COUNTRY - The new Comfort Suites will open June 15 despite a gas leak that shut down a portion of Waters Avenue for two hours on Monday.
A county agency was digging for a gas line Monday at the corner of the five-story hotel, 5421 W. Waters Ave., to hook it up for the hotel, said Ray Yeakley, spokesman for Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. In the process, workers nicked the line with a backhoe and caused a break in the 4-inch line.
The incident occurred in the late morning and caused fire rescue to close Waters Avenue for westbound and eastbound traffic from Anderson Road to the railroad tracks, just west of Woodland Center Boulevard.
Neighboring business employees had to remain indoors while fire crews worked to dissipate the gas. Nobody was hurt.
The Comfort Suites is owned by Shiv Shraddha LLC. The 90-room hotel will offer 385-square-foot rooms with a bed, sofa sleeper and stuffed chair as well as a 32-inch LCD television, coffeemaker, iron, hair dryers, microwave and refrigerator, owner Dharmesh Patel said.
Heated pools, a hot tub, a fitness center and a business center also will be available for guests.
