Readers React To Coyote Story

Published: June 28, 2008

A recent story in the Northwest News & Tribune and on TBO.com brought a reaction from readers of sympathy for coyotes and disdain for development. The story was about reports from Keystone residents that coyotes were suspected in the deaths of cats and the disappearance of a calf.

Here is a sampling of the reader comments:

For years I've heard the damage cats do to the wildlife ... killing and eating birds and small mammals, maybe this is just nature's way of solving that problem.

We should just kill all the wild animals so there isn't a problem like this. Geez people, I wonder what they would do in a real wildlife environment that hasn't been paved over?

The coyotes say cats taste like chicken.

This is the result of "development"... when you decide to build in an area that wildlife lives in, you'll have to learn to live with them. It's ridiculous to assume that you can build anywhere you'd like and just kill off anything that may become a nuisance. If you know that these animals in particular hunt at night, then be a responsible pet owner and bring your pets in.

Well the animal control services should be able to relocate them. Though I do agree with beth. Pet owners should keep their pets indoors at nightfall.

I love it when people go to the beach and complain about sand, move to the sticks and complain about nature, etc.

I don't think you are supposed to have that many cats anyway. I believe there is a county ordinance that only allows a certain amount of pets per household. If the person is caring for 7 cats and leaves some of them outside, then don't complain when nature takes its course.

I think they should relocate the coyote ... not kill them.
