TOWN 'N COUNTRY The Children's Home is now $107,000 richer, thanks to the success of two recent events.

The 26th Annual Heroes' Golf Tournament held April 28 at the Avila Golf and Country Club raised $66,000; while the 22nd Annual Star Power Fashion show at The Renaissance Vinoy Hotel in St. Petersburg, raised $41,000 on April 24.

"There are children in our care who are subject to the most egregious abuse," said Gerard Veneman, president and CEO of The Children's Home, during the fashion show, according to a press release. "Your support demonstrated today provides services to over 3,000 children. Thank you for your support of our children. Your generosity helps them lead a normal life that all of us are entitled to have."

The Children's Home, 10909 Memorial Highway, has a mission of helping neglected and abused children ages 6 to 14. Founded in 1892, it assists about 700 children annually through various programs and activities, and houses more than 100 through its residential treatment program, according to a release. In its history, it has aided more than 25,000 youngsters.

The fashion show had local celebrities such as Bay News 9 Anchor Jennifer Holloway, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Mark Royals and WFLA Meteorologist Steve Jerve modeling fashions by Georgette's & The Shoe Salon of Old Hyde Park Village and George, LTD. Tampa.

The luncheon, which was dubbed "The Greatest Show on Earth," also featured silent and live auctions that featured trips, memorabilia and a custom-made suit.

Four days later, about 116 golfers participated in the Heroes' Golf Tournament. Like the fashion show, the tournament featured a silent and live auction.

When all was said and done, the Advantica EyeCare team walked away with first place net. Curry Law Group earned second and All American Containers was third in that category. A first place gross category was added to the competition this year, and B&G Painting captured that title.
