TAMPA - More than 1,600 high school seniors will graduate from Alonso, Leto and Sickles high schools in ceremonies scheduled for late May and early June.
The Hillsborough County school district has scheduled graduations for traditional public high schools, magnet schools, career centers and charter schools.
Sickles' graduating class of 692 seniors is the largest in the county, surpassing Durant High School, which will graduate 600 students next month. The Sickles ceremony is at 7 p.m. June 3 at the University of South Florida Sun Dome.
Melissa Kerster is Sickles' valedictorian, with a 6.16 grade-point average. Everett Millman is the salutatorian and has a 6.06 grade-point average. They will speak at the ceremony, as will class President Ciprian Mejia and Principal Jake Russell.
Alonso will graduate 564 students at noon May 29 at USF.
Class President Robert Hessemer, Principal Louis Diaz and school namesake Braulio Alonso will speak, along with the valedictorian and salutatorian. David James Shields is the valedictorian, with a GPA of 6.018, and Ekaterina Makovskaya is salutatorian, with a 5.989 GPA.
Leto's senior class will graduate at 3 p.m. June 3, also at USF. The school will say goodbye to 420 seniors. Speakers include Principal David Brown, Valedictorian Anabel Fernandez and Salutatorian Shanna Marie Lindemeyer. Fernandez has a 6.13 GPA and Lindemeyer has a 5.98 GPA.
