CITRUS PARK - Former Alonso and Sickles high school softball player Lisa Rozanski is making a name for herself 1,000 miles from home.

The 20-year-old, a member of Ball State University's softball team, set a single-season record for steals recently.

The 2006 Alonso High graduate joined the Cardinals this year as a red-shirt freshman.

In an April 27 game, she set the Muncie, Ind., school record for steals with 38. She now has 39 for the season.

In the same game, she scored her 39th run, bringing her within three of the single-season record.

"I said to myself at the beginning of the year I wanted to break that record," she said. "I've always been fast, so why not?"

But when Rozanski broke it, no one knew. She had kept the quest to herself.

"I finally told some teammates after I did it," she said. "Then everybody heard about it, and it got out."

The Cardinals wrap up the regular season with games against Western Michigan and Northern Illinois this weekend.

If the team does well in those games, it will qualify for the 2008 MAC Softball Tournament. If not, it's back home to Tampa for summer vacation for Rozanski.
