CARROLLWOOD - A new thrift store whose sales will benefit families and patients with hospice care wants to stock its shelves with resalable merchandise for its mid-July grand opening.
Anyone with gently used clothing or household items may drop off donations during a monthlong drive scheduled for Saturdays in June at the new Life's Treasures Thrift Store at 4802 Gunn Highway in the Town Centre Shopping Center.
Volunteers with LifePath Hospice will collect donated goods from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the front parking lot of the store.
Because the building's renovations are not complete, organizers are asking donors to pack items in a box for easier storage until they can be sorted, tagged and shelved.
"The new store has more than 10,000 square feet of space, and we're appealing to the community to help us fill that space," said Beverly Wallace, director of Life's Treasures.
The thrift store is accepting clothing, household goods, furniture, jewelry, books and small appliances. Items should be in working order and in resalable condition. Two things volunteers won't take are computers and large appliances.
Donations will be sold at the new Carrollwood store. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit hospice agency, which cared for nearly 7,300 terminally ill patients last year, Wallace said.
The secondhand shop will be the organization's second thrift store location. The South Tampa store, at 1918 S. Dale Mabry Highway in the Carriage Trade Shopping Plaza, has been open for six years.
The store will operate six days a week and be run by mostly volunteers. Anyone interested in helping should call the hospice's volunteer hotline at (813) 871-8237.
