WESTCHASE - Bookworms can get up close and personal with some of their favorite local authors at the Writer's Festival at the Upper Tampa Bay Regional Library.

The event, held Oct. 11, will feature published authors, face painting and other activities. Headlining the event is Tim Dorsey. The Tampa resident and former Tampa Tribune editor has written 10 novels set in the Sunshine State.

Dorsey will be discussing his latest book, "Atomic Lobster." In this installment, serial killer Serge A. Storms and his sidekick, Coleman, are loose on a cruise ship.
Ann Turner Cook will also appear. Cook is the author of a series of mysteries set in Florida; her latest is "Micanopy in Shadow." Her other claim to fame is that she was the model for the Gerber baby food jar logo.

Also featured is 13-year-old Asher Edelson, who recently published the science-fiction novel "Adventure Land: The Strike of Lightning." The book bloomed from Edelson's struggle with Tourette's syndrome. The neurological disorder causes involuntary and repetitive motor and vocal tics.

Westchase resident Yolanda Rodriquez will talk about her children's book, "A Leafy Story." It's about a family of leaves changing colors in autumn and facing a cold winter.

Readers can get some expert advice on making paper airplanes from Westchase resident and author Dean Mackey. He has written two books on the subject and is the sponsor of the library's annual Paper Airplane Extravaganza.

Other festival participants include Gennieve Zinner, author of the children's book "Piggies Three"; John Nagy, author of "Emotional Awareness Made Easy"; and Judy Weyand, author of "The Patchwork Angel."
