Mingling Is Key At Singles Event

Published: October 15, 2008

CARROLLWOOD - Single ghouls and goblins can throw on a costume and head over to Whiskey North to unlock the key to true love.

On Saturday, the club will host a singles costume contest with a twist. The night, known as a Lock and Key event, features a game in which women wear locks around their necks and men are given keys. Then, singles mingle, trying to find the match that opens the lock. The game repeats so multiple couples meet.

"When you go to a nightclub or a party, it can be intimidating to approach people. Most mixers don't have people mixing at all. The men and women kind of hang with people they know and don't interact very much," says Darren Waldholz, national program manager. "With Lock and Key Events, the stress or potential embarrassment of being rejected on the spot is eliminated."

Each time a lock and key match, the couple are given tickets for a chance to win prizes from sponsors, such as money, dinner certificates, admission tickets, spa packages and massages.

Admission cost is $20 to $30. The event includes free appetizers for the first hour and, for $10, unlimited well drinks until 9 p.m. Costume contest winners receive a $25 bar tab.

Participants must be at least 21, and the suggested age range is 22 to 49. For information, visit www.whiskeynorth.com or www.LockAnd KeyEvents.com/TPA or call (813) 968-1515.
