TOWN 'N COUNTRY - Fran Gamester has been named chairwoman of the Town 'N Country committee in charge of planning the community's 50th birthday bash.
Though the event is more than a year off, the committee has already decided on a name for the event, authorized the opening of a checking account, selected a venue, picked a date and begun laying the groundwork for what the festivities will include.
Terry Fortino, a member of the volunteer group, has donated his expertise and covered the expenses for setting up a Web site for the event. The address is townncountry 50.tbbni.us.
He also did a variety of letterheads for the group to consider for the event's stationery.
Like most committees, they had a few suggestions, but by the time they left the meeting, the group had settled on a letterhead and a name for their event.
They're going with "TNC 50, Going Gold."
The group's next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at Town 'N Country Recreation Center, 6039 Hanley Road.
The meeting will be at night to give people who work during the day a chance to become involved. If the meeting gets a good turnout, the group will likely begin alternating future meetings between day and night sessions. Otherwise, they'll most likely stick to daytime meetings.
"This is a community project. We should have people involved," said Gamester, who also serves as president of the Town 'N Country Garden Circle.
