Delicate Delights On View At Show

WESTCHASE - Whether you are a proud orchid grower or simply an admirer of the delicate flowers, the 27th annual orchid show promises to offer something for everyone.

The Tampa Bay Orchid Society will be holding its show and sale next month at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center. Organizers say the event will be the largest indoor plant show in Hillsborough County and appeals to both experienced and novice growers.

The public is invited to enter orchids in the competition. The flowers must be entered March 13 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Show chairwoman Patty Cartwright said flowers will be judged by the standards of the American Orchid Society.

"They'll be looking at form, balance, color and presentation of the specimen," Cartwright said. "The growers should clean up their plants and prepare them for presentation."

In addition to the competition, 15 orchid growers will be at the show selling orchids, supplies, orchid art and books and magazines. The event will also feature educational seminars about growing and caring for orchids.

Experts will also be on hand to help growers repot their orchids, so people are encouraged to bring orchids they want repotted.

Admission is $5, which includes a ticket toward daily drawings. Admission is free to all Tampa Bay Orchid Society members and to those joining the society at the show.
