TAMPA - Hillsborough County's Public Works Department will host its last public meeting on a proposed canal dredging project that could affect hundreds of waterfront homeowners around the Bay area.
The meeting is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the County Center, 26th floor, Conference Rooms A and B, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., downtown Tampa.
A public hearing before the county commission will consider adopting an ordinance to set up a municipal service benefits unit for landowners willing to pay to have canals dredged behind their houses to allow better access to Tampa Bay.
The hearing is at 2 p.m. Jan. 22 in the second floor boardroom of the County Center.
The county has held four major public meetings on the canal dredging issue after conducting a two-year study and forming a canal advisory committee made up of 20 interested citizens and representatives of various organizations.
