TOWN 'N COUNTRY - After nearly three years of working out the details, Town and Country Elementary finally has a covered court.
On Thursday, the entire school sat on the 100-by-88-foot court to celebrate the shade. Students and staff danced, sang cut a ribbon to commemorate the occasion.
"We are thrilled," said Principal Jenilda Gallo. "We don't have trees and it gets extremely hot out there. Now we can do anything."
Although the construction began in January, Gallo said the cover's planning has been going on for three years.
To get the cover, the school fulfilled an agreement with the Hillsborough County school district and the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department. Both funded the project, with the agreement that the Town 'N Country Recreation Center, which neighbors the school, can use the court.
Gallo said the project included building a walkway to connect the school and recreation center.
