TOWN 'N COUNTRY - Town 'N Country Regional Library officially received the Library Quilt during a Feb. 23 dedication ceremony.

The quilt has an international and classic literary history, with 16 squares that represent well-known books: "Tales of Peter Rabbit," "Cat in the Hat," "Pride & Prejudice," "Gone With the Wind," "Don Quixote," "Les Miserables," "Animal Farm," "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," "Tom Sawyer," "Charlotte's Web," "Alice in Wonderland," "Hansel and Gretel," "Anna Karenina," "Treasure Island," "Romeo and Juliet" and "Their Eyes Were Watching God."

The quilt is in a wooden and glass case to protect it from the elements and is hung in the lobby of Town 'N Country Commons, beneath the second-floor library, for all to enjoy.

The quilt committee, chaired by Marilyn Hood, spent more than a year designing, researching and finishing this work of art.

At the national organization of quilters show here in Tampa, which had more than 100 entries, the Library Quilt won first-place ribbons for Best in Show and Best in Category. This brought smiles and joy to the quilters, Ginny Berman, Mary Ann Braithwaite, Karrel Buckingham, Marcia Case, Alma Coston, Dea Crandall, Nancy Crippen, Cheryl Haynes, Linda Jones, Cathy Kessler, Linda Masters, Shirley Pope and Debbie Yamokoski.

The ceremony was hosted by the Friends of the Town 'N Country Regional Library. The event also included a performance by Scott Simon, a well-known jazz and blues musician, as well as an assistant professor of library science at the University of South Florida.

The Friends group is happy and fortunate to receive such a priceless gift for all Town 'N Country residents. We invite you to come and enjoy.

Gene Ann Kennedy is president of the Friends of the Town 'N Country Regional Library. The library is at 7606 Paula Drive, Tampa.
