Published: March 25, 2009

The Town 'N Country Garden Circle, Town 'N Country Rotary Club and Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation have joined forces to raise money for enhancements to Shimberg Gardens, which is under construction next to the Town 'N Country Commons at Paula and Ambassador drives.

The garden circle has secured more than $64,000 for enhancements to Shimberg Gardens, but has identified $93,000 in needs.

Residents have three ways to help make Shimberg Gardens the jewel of Town 'N Country.

Tour Of Gardens

The garden circle will host its sixth annual Tour of Gardens April 19. The tour will feature seven gardens in Pat Acres Estates and circle member gardens.

Those attending will be able to check out home landscapes and talk to the homeowners about specific plants, shrubs and trees. Ever seen a chocolate pudding tree? How about viewing an award-winning water-wise garden? These and many more will be available for viewing.

Registration for the tour will begin at 1 p.m. at the Town 'N Country Recreation Center, 6039 Hanley Road. The tourists will return to the recreation center for a complimentary home-cooked buffet and door prizes.

Cost is $10. Tickets may be purchased the day of the event at 1 p.m. Please, no children on the tour.

For information, call (813) 884-3462, or go to www.tampa gardenclub.com and click on "projects and programs."

Plant Sale

The garden circle and Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation will hold its sixth annual plant sale at the Town 'N Country Recreation Center, 6039 Hanley Road on April 19. The sale will be from noon to 5 p.m. Garden circle members have been growing plants for months for the sale.
Master gardeners Lucy Hoyt and Lorriane Whyte will identify plants and answer questions. Prices for most plants will be between 50 cents and $5. Some plants may cost more.

Money from the sale will go to Shimberg Gardens. Unsold plants will be donated to Sandra Perrone Park, 5020 Kelly Road.

To donate plants, call Aggie Pompeo at (813) 888-9144.
Rotary Club Golf Tournament
Shimberg Gardens will be a beneficiary of the Town 'N Country Rotary Club's 12th annual charity golf tournament on April 27 at Rocky Point Golf Course, 4151 Dana Shores Drive. The foursome-style golf scramble will start at 1 p.m.

Landry's Restaurant will provide lunch and dinner. Hole-in-one prizes: $10,000, eight-day golf vacation in Europe, three-day Bahamas cruise and a set of golf clubs.

For information, contact Bob Pettit or Patti Borgstrom at (813) 238-6041.

Garden Talk

Pat Rey, co-owner of Green Thump Nursery, will present a program on "Controlling Garden Pests" at the circle's noon April 1 meeting at the Town 'N Country Recreation Center, 6039 Hanley Road. New members welcome. For information, call (813) 884-3462.
