CARROLLWOOD - A salon owner is hoping people will turn out for a day of beauty for a good cause.
The Salon and Spa at Mystic Hair in Carrollwood is hosting a fundraiser cut-a-thon/spa-a-thon April 5 to benefit Summer Moll.
Summer, 5, was critically injured in a drunken-driving accident on the Selmon Crosstown Expressway in September. She lost her mother, Jennifer O'Boyle, after Cheryl Maria Riemann, 26, of Ruskin, according to police, smashed head-on into O'Boyle's vehicle while driving the wrong way on the lower portion of the expressway. Riemann is awaiting trial on DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide charges.
Summer went home with her maternal grandparents in January after enduring multiple operations at Tampa General Hospital and needing casts on her arms, a brace on her neck and pins in both legs.
Salon co-owner MaryLynn Pearson said the fundraiser came about when she was approached about offering the grandmother, Tammy Rosian, a free day of beauty.
"Of course, I said we would do it, but I wanted to do more to help," Pearson said.
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the salon will offer select services with all the proceeds benefiting Summer. Customers can get haircuts for $25, a blow-dry for $10, a mini-facial for $30 or a 25-minute massage for $30.
The firefighters who responded to the accident will be at the salon cooking, and the money from food sales will also go to Summer. Reservations are being accepted, but walk-ins are also welcome. The salon is at 13801 N. Dale Mabry Highway. For information call (813) 264-2215.
