Robert Weiner's been around some great high school quarterbacks (see Robert Marve and Aaron Murray), so he knows a good one when he sees one.
And he thinks the Panthers Friday night district opponent Alonso has a good one in C.J. Bennett.
"I think one of the greatest characteristics a quarterback can have and particularly something that can get you prepared to play college is to get the ball out of your hands quickly," Weiner
said. "It's not only their quick-pass offense. Their offense is geared toward that so plays are geared for him getting the ball out quickly, but it's also his mechanics. The thing some quarterbacks sacrifice when they release the ball quickly is velocity on the ball and C.J. doesn't sacrifice any of that.
"He delivers the ball on time, every time so he's like FedEx."
Weiner said it hasn't been easy getting prepared to play a potentially potent offense like Alonso. In doing so, he now has a greater respect for his opposing coaches.
"It's kind of, for the first time, imagining what it's like to prepare for us and the kind of headaches defensive coaches have had to go through," Weiner said. "I know we do a lot of things that you have to prepare for so this is a fun challenge."
