The nationwide economic downtown is offering few signs it is about to reverse course. This has government on all levels scrambling to keep spending in line with falling revenue. Under such circumstances, public officials should welcome whatever help they can get in shouldering this burden. Pinellas County deputies are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash on the Dunedin Causeway this morning. Christopher Robert Crance, of 1061 Sedeeva St., Clearwater, was riding westbound with other motorcyclists and crashed into a guardrail about 3:20 a.m. today, deputies said. He was ejected and landed more than 100 feet from the motorcycle, deputies said. He died at the scene. Crance, 25, was wearing a helmet, deputies said. ...more

Before local artist Garry Dodds travels to Africa and the Middle East to help refugees in that part of the world, he plans to help local homeless people with the help of fellow artist and musician Tanya Orme. Dodds, who is from Safety Harbor, and the Ozona-based Orme wanted to give something back to the community. They will present an exhibition of their art, today, Saturday, at Ozona Village Hall.
