Voters with an environmental bent will get the chance to see where county commission candidates stand Wednesday. The Gulf Coast Conservancy will host a candidate forum 7 p.m. today Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Aripeka Community Club, 1393 Osowaw Blvd. The club is two miles west of U.S. 19. The forum will feature candidates running for Pasco and Hernando county commissions. All 10 of the candidates — six from Hernando, four from Pasco — plan to attend, said Leslie Neumann, a Gulf Coast Conservancy member and Aripeka resident organizing the event. ...more

The use of American taxpayers' dollars to bail out Wall Street could and will put most of America's social programs in great danger. Social Security and Medicare, which all Americans rely on for most of their lives, could be in most danger. I would ask that all taxpayers ask for and demand that this bailout be cancelled by the next Congress and the new president elect. ...more

Candidate Fliers Show Up In School Mailboxes PORT RICHEY Fliers supporting sheriff's candidate Kim Bogart turned up Wednesday morning in employee mailboxes at Chasco Middle School, which school officials say is a violation of school policy and state law. Principal Christine Wolff said she had the fliers pulled from the mailboxes when the situation was brought to her attention. Wolff said she doesn't know who was responsible. Assistant Superintendent Renalia DuBose cited two state laws and a school board policy that govern political activities of employees at schools. One law prohibits government employees from participating in political campaigns while on duty. The other law prohibits candidates from using the services of government employees during working hours. ...more
